Failures

The mountain is tall and high,
Says everyone who passes by.
They laud everyone who conquers it,
And shower him with fame and wealth along with it.

There is many a climber,
Who tries to journey to the top.
He’s there in the midst suffering it all,
To prove a point to the world – one and all.

He takes a step but falls back two,
The harsh cold has half eaten his fingers too.
He knows what it means to fail,
All the humiliation and the lack of fame.

Bystanders claim it is his next failure,
Even close ones give up on their prayer.
They know nothing of the countless obstacles he encounters,
Only the claimed results of his endeavours.

High in the mountain he knows what they talk,
Yet give up on his dream he will not.
Inch by Inch he climbs upward,
Until his dream is just two steps forward.

At the top people laud his success,
They say the underdog has proved his mettle.
But he very well knows to ignore the adulation,
Because success is the journey not the destination.
